Far-Right Groups Pushing ‘Parental Rights’ Are Squashing Our Freedom and Ruining Our Schools

September 28, 2023

Let’s discuss Parental Freedom; freedom to send our children to schools staffed with highly qualified teachers. Since the inception of the “parental rights” campaign, we are seeing extreme teacher shortages across the nation.  States like Florida have been forced to lower credential standards and qualifications just to staff their public schools.

GOP’s Parental Rights Campaign Hides Behind Extremism

September 26, 2023

This year Republicans and their allies are running for school boards on the platform of “Parental Rights.”  It sounds like a well-intentioned slogan but only because it hasn’t been clearly defined for voters.

These far-right groups have been running coordinated campaigns to overtake our local school boards for three years. Under the guise of “parental rights”, these groups purposely disrupt meetings, and they intentionally intimidate and harass teachers, librarians, school officials, and other parents.

Activists are at odds with Millstone Township BOE sex-ed curriculum changes

The Millstone Township Board of Education (BOE) voted unanimously for in-class restrictions to the LGBTQ-inclusive health and sex education curriculum mandated by the state on Aug. 22, 2022. Now five months later, the public is just becoming aware of them. Millstone joins several other school districts in the Garden State that have adopted a “Parents Rights in Education” standard.

Enforce sex ed curriculum, advocates implore Gov. Murphy and the department of education

The New Jersey Public Education Coalition, which includes educators, administrators, municipal leaders, parents, and concerned citizens working to protect schools from extremism, said school board members and school boards were violating their oaths of office, ethical obligations, and state law when they rejected the standards, a political flashpoint following their adoption in 2020.

ETP founder recently interviewed for story on challenges for school board candidates running against millions of dollars being spent from multiple national and local extremist conservative groups. He discusses the challenges of being the only Federal Political Action Committee working to combat these groups influence.

Pandemic, culture wars revive ‘school choice’ policy push

With memories fresh from pandemic-era school closures and curriculum battles — particularly over how matters of gender and race are taught — Mason and legions of parents like her are trekking to the marble floors of their state Capitols to fight to create education savings accounts, also known as ESAs. Though they vary, these voucher-style proposals have been introduced in states including Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oregon, South Carolina, Texas and Utah.

HERE’S HOW MOMS FOR LIBERTY IS LYING ABOUT BOOKS

This week across the book banning social media world, a new guidebook to inappropriate books across the state of Iowa has been circulating. This 111 page guidebook, put together by Moms For Liberty in Polk County, reiterates that their quest to remove inappropriate books from schools is not about book banning. Indeed, they use the Stephen King philosophy to suggest that just because they do not want books in schools does not mean that students cannot get them from public libraries (conveniently leaving out their quest to get those books removed in public libraries, too).

Ron DeSantis and support from a far-right group founded by members of the Proud Boys. During celebrations on Tuesday night, two of the newly-elected board members were photographed at the official victory party with two of the Proud Boys, one of whom posed flashing the OK sign, a known white-power dog whistle.

Anti-CRT Conservative PACs Dominate Texas School Board Elections

Candidates backed by conservative political action committees (PACs) swept Texas school board elections held on Saturday, as last year’s nationwide pushback against critical race theory materializes into on-the-ground victories.

A new form of McCarthyism is taking cancerous root in the New Jersey body politic|Opinion

In New Jersey, the authors of the legislation embodying this anti-African American, racial McCarthyism are two Republican New Jersey state senators, Michael Testa, Jr. of Cumberland County and Joe Pennacchio of Morris County, both strong supporters of Donald Trump. Their press release introducing this legislation, S4166, is a classic example of McCarthyism at its most vile extreme, a naked effort to purge academic freedom from our public school system and to suppress any effort to teach to the children of New Jersey the shameful American heritage of slavery, racial discrimination, and segregation.

Another local election result based on erroneous information. Help us stop this in 2022. “On the day before the election, a postcard was delivered to local homes to urge voters to “fire” her because she “authorizes teachings of critical race theory.”
